Though, those APs you have are on the higher-end. You'd be sacrificing available throughput when meshing. Though personally, if you can route a cable. 3-band still allows 2.4GHz/5GHz clients, while 2-band only allows 2GHz.įor your specific model, not sure, best way is to check if its supports meshing (googling shows this: ) saying your AP does support Mesh. Typically, APs that support this are either 2 band or 3 bands in which the 5GHz or 5.(something-depends-on-vendor)GHz. Serves as the backhaul. There are AP-Routers that have the ability to become Extenders i.e., Mesh Client Putting proper Products to prevent confusion, added new question that’s still relevant to my original Post ![]() Im pretty new to networking (if this would be considered that?) any advice or insight is greatly appreciates and thank you What are the bonuses of an access point mode vs turning one into an extender? How shouldi set this up or what would be a good safe option? Is there a way to set one of the routers to be a wifi extender? I've set up the C2300 in access point mode, and I cannot leave it wired if i want to move it upstairs. *EDIT* All questions below have been answered *EDIT* Is it possible to use the C2300’s for its safety options and cloud options while using the C5400 (not the C5400X) for the tri band with capabilities? (The virus protection is a key feature I want to implement for laptop and desktop protection)*EDIT* I have just the Archer C5400 set up currently and I noticed I can’t bind it to my tp account and it does not built in with an anti virus/malware program (the C2300 came with one built into the system) *EDIT*i have another question that I would like answered (did not want to make a new post if I didn’t need to) What the heck is going on for tplink? It's been many months and no fixed or new firmware released.Seriously, i would consider not to buy tplink product again.I own both a Archer C2300 (V1.0)( ) and Archer C5400 (V1.0)( ) I have same problem, after firmware update, all 5G cannot connect, always prompt for invalid password.and downgrade to old version is not allowed. ( Hate the replacement process too) What is you advice tech support ? I am kind of scared to update the firmware and end up with more problems including the missing 5G. But I am missing the antivirus, homecare and Qos features ( or partially not working). The new unit arrived yesterday and seems to be working OK with original firmware from factory. Worked with tech support for 2 weeks and ended up returning for an exchange to the seller. My 5G will be gone on certain devices especially the new android version devices including an Ipad with OS11. ![]() I had issues with 5G after updating to the 170922. From website I find the most current version is from 170922. Were did you find the firmware listed.Rel 61622 (1701121). ![]() the devices worked so they are connected, just not listed. I could see all connected devices but next day they were not listed.
